This George Vincent original has an easy Latin feel with a recurring rhythm pattern. An original rock chart with a hint of the East! The groove is a simple rock style and composer/arranger Jeff Darrohn has flavored this one witli harmonies and intervals that sound a little misterioso. American Patrol  Grade 1. by F.W. Meacham, arr. Mike Lewis
Glenn Miller's band made this a huge World War II hit song and it is scored here for the young player. Mike Lewis arranged this chart with no individual solos, very modest brass ranges and plenty of ensemble sound. 1st trumpet range is to written E-flat on the top space. Easy to rehearse and perform.

  Grade 2. by Gordon Goodwin, an. Ralph Ford
Arranger Ralph Ford has scored this Goodwin swing shuffle to be accessible for the younger band. Challenges are the shuffle groove and accurate articulation. The theme from Rocky is triumphant, powerful and noble sounding! This rock-style chart is scored for the young player by Victor Lopez with die familiar Maynard Ferguson-flavored solo. Cantaloupe Island  Grade 2. by Herbie Hancock, arr. Mike Kamuf
Arranger Mike Kamuf scores this hip, funky Herbie Hancock tune for the young player. This chart is ideal for this level with only three chords, a repetitive groove and catchy melody. It also includes written solos for tenor sax and trumpet and the lead trumpet range goes up to written top line F with optional G on top of the staff.

Big Band Holiday Grade 2. various, arr Carl Strommen
Arranger Carl Strommen has blended "I'll Be Home For Christmas," "Santa Claus is Coming To Town," "Have Yourself a Merry Christmas,"and "Frosty the Snowman" into an easy-to- rehearse and very playable chart. The chart features brief written-out solos for trombone 2 and alto sax 1 and plenty of ensemble playing throughout. The brass range is modest with lead trumpet going up to written F on the top line. A superb chart!
If I Could Fly Grade 2. by Mike Smukal
If I Could Fly is a lush ballad for solo tenor saxophone. Composer/arranger Mike Smukal weaves and contrasts minor and major harmonies and has created a superb chart for the younger player with lead trumpet range only to top line written F. The full tenor sax solo is written-out and the rhythm section parts are very clear. An excellent showpiece for a young tenor sax player.
A Tribute to Trane Grade 2. by Mike Lewis
A tribute to the great John Coltane, a jazz legend! Composer/arranger Mike Lewis has crafted an accessible young band medium-swing chart based on the characteristic Coltrane chord progression of ascending minor thirds. The chart is targeted to younger players with a written-out trumpet solo and plenty of unisons throughout. Rhythm section parts are clearly notated. Adelieland (from Happy Feet) Grade 2. by John Powell, arr Victor Lopez
From the movie Happy Feet, "Adelieland" is high-energy mambo! Victor Lopez, the mambo king, has made this exciting groove accessible to the young player. Solos are written out for each wind section or individual. Lead trumpet range goes to written G on top of the staff. An auxiliary percussion part is included along with optional parts for flute, tuba, F horn and baritone horn. It's mambo madness!
Sheherajazz Grade 2. by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, arr. Mike Smukal
Based on Rimsky-Korsakov's The Young Prince and the Princess, Mike Smukal’s chart, Sheherajazz, moves from a light rock introduction to an easy Latin samba groove and then into a swing feel. There are no individual solos, but plenty of ensemble, a modulation into a big shout chorus and the 1st trumpet range is to written G on top of the staff. Fun, interesting and a crowd pleaser!
Chirimbolo Grade 2. traditional, arr Victor Lopez
Victor Lopez, our resident Latin master, has transformed this simple Spanish song into a Latin-funk chart for the young player. The groove moves from mellow to funky and 1st trumpet range is to A above the staff. It includes no individual jazz solos but plenty of section and ensemble work. A catchy melody and fun chart that is easy to put together!
Grooved Pavement. Grade 2 by Victor Lopez
With a funky riff and strong backbeat, this chart is a groove to play. Victor Lopez wrote a repetitive two-measure break that is the focus of this chart along with solo space for alto sax, trumpet and trombone. Lead trumpet range is to written A-flat above the staff. Lots of unison and a building interlude will set this chart apart. Funky and fun.

This funky Latin version of Railroad is both fresh and clever. A clever and interesting Latin chart with a mesmerizing melody, composer/arranger Craig Skeffington captures it all in Trofeo de Bolos. Just in Time Grade 3. by Betty Comden, Adolph Green S Jule Styne, arr. W. Scott Ragsdale
Just in Time is a wonderful jazz standard, superbly arranged in a swing style. The intro alternates between a two-feel and a four-feel then the chart locks into four. Modulations will keep everyone concentrating as the chart goes from the key of C to D-flat to B-flat. A powerful shout chorus, a few solis and solo space for tenor and piano are only a few features of this great chart. Lead trumpet range goes to written A. Gotta have this one!
Drivin' Grade 3. by Adrien Re
This driving shuffle has a serious groove. Adrien Re has created a shuffle that will linger in your mind. Solo opportunities are written-out for tenor and trombone with ensemble backgrounds plus a brief drum solo. Lead trumpet range is to written A (optional D). It's hip!
Bye Bye Blackbird Grade 3

Trumpets out front! Showcase the trumpet section with Dave Wolpe s chart on this great jazz standard. Written-out solos on all four trumpet parts and the lead trumpet range is to a written B. Bellavia Grade 3. by Chuck Mangione, arr. Victor Lopez
Victor Lopez has made this easily playable for high school ensembles. This chart is a beautiful ballad with a mambo solo section. The highest note for the first trumpet is a written A above the staff, and there are written solos provided for tenor and trombone. Memorable!
Pecking Order  Grade 3. by Kris Berg
Kris Berg brings another super-funky "chicken" chart to market and this one features a James Brown groove. Solo are written out for alto, tenor, trumpet and trombone. Softly, As In a Morning Sunrise  Grade 3. by Oscar Hammerstein II & Sigmund Romberg,arr, Dave Rivello
This arrangement of the standard Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise really cooks! Dave Rivello's hot Latin and swing chart will excite and challenge the band. Sousa for jazz ensemble! Jazz trombonist, composer and arranger Wycliffe Gordon has created a tour de force on this traditional march. It has swing, Latin and New Orleans all rolled into one superb chart. Solos are (written) for trumpets 1 and 2. This chart will bring down the house!
After You've Gone  Grade 3. by Henry Creamer & Turner Layton, arr. David Berger
This is an up-tempo swing chart with the drums as the solo instrument, so hang on to your hats! Inspired from the original Roy Eldridge-Gene Krupa recording of After You've Gone, this drumset feature is dynamically understated. There is a half-time swing section with a unison line played by trumpet 2, trombone 1 and rhythm section, and the drum solo is interspersed with the ensemble and also has an open solo section. Brass range is modest. Optional parts included.
St. Louis Blues  Grade
3. by W.C Handy, arr. Victor Coines
Victor Goines has arranged this blues tune by W.C. Handy as a swing with Latin-rumba interludes. A clever update of a classic, check out the stylistic contrasts he writes along with the written solos for trumpet 2 and trombone 1. Lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff. This arrangement is correlated and discussed in the Jazz at Lincoln Center Jazz for Young People Curriculum. An original and creative chart.

I've Got You Under My Skin
  Grade 3+. by Cole Porter, arr. Dave Wolpe
Arranger Dave Wolpe delivers a classic swing vocal chart in the Sinatra style. Arranged in two keys for flexibility, this one features a trombone solo in the shout chorus. High key is E-flat (range is B-flat below middle C to top line F), low key is B-flat (range is F below middle C to third line B-flat). Superb arranging.
Summer Wind  Grade 3+. by Johnny Mercer & Hans Bradtke, arr. Dave Wolpe
The Summer Wind Will be the hit of any performance. Arranged with class and style by master arranger Dave Wolpe, this chart is an easy tempo swing arranged in two keys to feature vocal soloist with jazz ensemble with a brief tenor sax solo. Vocal keys are high key starting in E-flat (range is B-flat below middle C to E-flat fourth space) and the low key starting in C (range low G below middle C to third space C).

Dave Wolpe's superb chart for vocalist and jazz ensemble is arranged in C and Fjust flip the page for the preferred key! In addition, an optional part is provided for tenor sax as an alternative to the vocal. A terrific stop-time sax soli and a jazz solo for trumpet 2 are highlights of this swinger. Low key vocal range is G-flat below middle C to second space A. High key range is B below middle C to fourth line D treble clef. Another outstanding Wolpe chart!

Wow! This is a show-stopping chart by arranger Alan Baylock of the Ellington/Tizol classic. The groove moves logically between an up-tempo swing, a "Maiden Voyage" feel, a double-time swing and a 12/8 Afro-Cuban feel. Features include plenty of solo space for tenor saxophone, brief written melody lines for various instruments, and lots of moving lines and sax solis. This is a fierce Latin chart that will challenge everyone in the band! Composer/arranger Victor Lopez knows Latin music and he has put his heart and soul into this one. The complex baion Latin groove creates a light and exciting feel and solos are offered for tenor, trumpet and trombone with chord changes. Hullabaloo Grade 4. by Alan Baylock
Hullabaloo is a contemporary New Orleans groove chart that mesmerizes! Alan Baylock delivers a very exciting arrangement with melody lines that are played by alto, tenor, trumpet and trombone with solo space for each. Funky Wheels  Grade 4. by Les Hooper
Les Hooper always delivers very hip funk charts and this one is no exception. With a terrific shout chorus and a funky Steely Dan type groove, solos are for tenor 1 and trumpet 2, and lead trumpet range it to written D. Groovy baby!
Jitterbug Waltz  Grade 4. by Thomas "Fats" Waller, arr Eric Richards
This jazz waltz is stunning! Arranger Eric Richards has taken Fats Wallers wonderful classic and brought new life to this hip tune. Includes solos (written for piano, tenor and trumpet), powerful ensemble sections and solis, a stop time chorus, a brief drum solo, and a lead trumpet range up to written high D. This chart is ideal for festival and every concert. Very hot!
Crescent City Stomp  Grade 4. by Dave Brubeck, arr Kris Berg
Energy and groove are the key elements in this burner. Kris takes Dave Brubeck's New Orleans style tunes and adapts it to the big band with style. An improvised solo for 1st alto and 2nd trumpet, along with some tricky lines for the alto and trumpet together, will offer some challenges. Some big, juicy ensemble will keep the band busy, too. A super-hot chart, great for festival!

At last, a showcase for the trumpet section from Gordon Goodwin! The groove is straight eighths with a funky feel. Solo space is provided for trumpets 1, 2, 3, 4, but can be tailored as desired. Lead trumpet range is to written high G with an optional A. This is a fun chart and will be a kick for the band and audience.
The Phat Pack  Grade 6. by Gordon Goodwin
Slow and bluesy! The title chart as recorded on Gordon Goodwin's newest CD, The Phat Pack. Things to enjoy: it's kind of greasy, it's full of twists and turns, calls for brass plunger mutes and optional bass clarinet for bari sax, and the lead trumpet range goes up to written E with a few G's. There is solo'space for all saxes, trumpet 4 and trombone 1. Show stopping!
God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen  Grade 6. arr. Gordon Goodwin
