An original swing chart that is very accessible and written by a top professional who knows exactly how to write for this level. No individual solos, plenty of tutti ensemble, a modulation, and easy ranges and rhythms will make this chart very playable, fun, and effective for any performance. (2:50) Coral Reef • Grade 1 By Neal Hefti, arr. Roy Phillippe. In the style of the great Basie band, this medium-tempo swing chart will give your young band a mature sound. Piano states the melody, then 1st alto and 1st trumpet join in, followed by plenty of easy section solis,no individual solos, and a nice shout chorus. Modest trumpet range and the usual optional parts make this chart very accessible. (3:15) Tweet • Grade 1 By Vince Gassi. This will earn a smile from the audience and the band. A subtle “tweet” harmony effect is in the chart, but it’s not too obvious, so don’t think this is a novelty chart. Instead, it’s a rock-flavored, upbeat, and fun vehicle for the band. A short tenor sax solo and trumpet solo are both written out, lead trumpet range is to written F on the top line, plus it has optional parts for flute, F. horn, baritone horn, and tuba. A great classic, and highly Holiday selection recommended. (4:10) Blues Mode • Grade 2 By Rich Sigler. This medium swing chart from a very creative writer approaches the blues with a 24-bar blues form that really makes it easy to hear and feel the blues chord progression. Features include written solos for tenor sax and trombone, backgrounds behind the soloists, a clever interlude section, and the lead trumpet part range to written F top line. A traditional yet hip-sounding swing chart! (4:29) Sambeando • Grade 2 By Victor Lopez. This cheerful and energized samba will brighten your jazz ensemble. From the first note to the last, this is classic Victor Lopez Latin. Jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard has sadly passed on, but his wonderful music lives in this masterfully-arranged haunting melody with an alternating bossa and light funk groove.Solos are written for piano, trumpet, and tenor sax, with modest brass ranges, and a sweet shout chorus. It’s been play-tested at the middle school level with great success. (5:04) Wizard Wheezes • Grade 2 By Nicholas Hooper, arr. Victor Lopez. Straight from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, this swing chart will delight. Beginning with a drum beat à la “Sing, Sing, Sing,” the energy keeps on building thanks to the clever arrangement. Features a written solo for 1sttrumpet, and the range is only to written F top line with an optional A on the last note. (2:04) Act Your Age • Grade 2 By Gordon Goodwin, arr. Peter Blair. Slick and funky, this hot Gordon Goodwin chart is for the younger players. There are written solos for 1st alto (cued for 2nd alto) and a 1st trumpet solo cued in all four trumpet parts. Lead trumpet has a written A above the staff, but technically this chart is not difficult and will come together quickly to earn a spot in your program. (3:37) Killer Joe (Cool Joe, Mean Joe) • Grade 2 By Benny Golson & Quincy Jones,arr. Lisa DeSpain. Lisa DeSpain steps a little outside the box with this very clever and original treatment of this well-known jazz standard. This chart will mesmerize you yet swing all the way, with written tenor sax and trumpet solos, and lead trumpet range to written G on top of the staff. Well-written and fresh, this one will grab you and stay with you for sure. (4:04) King of Pop • Grade 2 By Michael Jackson, arr. Victor Lopez. Michael Jackson was the King of Pop. This medley is loaded with three great MJ songs and it is guaranteed to be a hit. “Bad” and“Beat It” have basic rock grooves and “The Girl Is Mine” has a pop-tune feel. You can play the songs in the medley as written, individually, or in any combination. You can’t beat this. (4:41) Double or Nothing • Grade 2 By Mike Lewis. If you ever wanted to play an easy swingin’ shuffle, this is it. Mike Lewis is betting you will dig this chart with its huge shuffle groove. The written tenor solo swings, the ensemble swings even harder, and the strong back beat on beat 2 will grab you. Easy to rehearse because the sections play together most of the time—the hardest thing about this arrangement is trying not to tap your foot. (3:19) Major Thoroughfare • Grade 2 By Jeff Darrohn. A swing chart with a drum cadence street beat, Jeff Darrohn brings a military flavor to this chart. With an unusual yet catchy melody, you’ll like this original that features written solos available for alto, tenor, trumpet, or trombone, plus all the standard optional parts. Hit the Bricks • Grade 3 By Gordon Goodwin. If you want to play Gordon Goodwin charts but they are too challenging, check this one out! Composed and arranged by Gordon, himself, specifically for middle or high school level, this funky chart is totally hot! Lead trumpet range is to written G on top of the staff, written-out solos are for alto, tenor, trumpet, and trombone, along with backgrounds on cue, plus optional parts. This chart is very playable by a good middle or a high school jazz band. It’s the Big Phat Bandsound - but accessible for your band. Play it now! (4:44) Old Devil Moon • Grade 3 Words by E.Y. Harburg, music by Burton Lane, arr. Dave Wolpe. A great jazz standard arranged by the king of swinging charts, Dave Wolpe. This arrangement features a written-out trumpet solo and a few sax section solis. The lead trumpet part goes to written B above the staff, with optional parts for flute, horn, baritone horns, and tuba. An excellent chart to open any concert. (3:01) Over the Rainbow • Grade 3 By Harold Arlen & EY Harburg, arr. Alan Baylock. Do you have two trumpet players to showcase? Here is a ballad everybody knows, scored as a trumpet duet. Everything is written, no improvised solo, the lead trumpet range is to C above the staff, and the second part is to written A. Lyrical and melodic, it’s asure-fire crowd pleaser. (2:38) Perdido • Grade 3 By Juan Tizol, arr. Victor Lopez. Mambo! Arranger Victor Lopez has masterfully intertwined a mambo and a swing feel in this great Juan Tizol jazz classic. Includes a written tenor sax solo, lead trumpet range to written A, a brief sax soli, and lots of excitement throughout. Don’t be “lost,” play “Perdido!” (3:41) Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas • Grade 3 Words & music by Hugh Martin& Ralph Blane, arr. Alan Baylock. As recorded by the USAF Airmen of Note and arranged by Alan Baylock in the style of “Li’lDarlin’,” this slow swing is the ideal chart for the holidays. It features no improvised solo, but has a written trumpet melody solo, lead trumpet range to written G on top of the staff, and is technically a very easy chart to play. (3:02) Defibrillator • Grade 3 By Adrien Re. Nothing makes you tap your foot like a shuffle and this one has a monster back-beat groove. A very hip melody line, written-out solos for tenor sax and 1st trombone, lead trumpet range to written A above the staff, and a powerhouse shout chorus are but a few features. Check out the hot bari sax part, too. (4:22) Naima • Grade 3 By John Coltrane, arr. Craig Skeffington. Coltrane’s favorite, and played by jazz musicians everywhere, this sweet bossa chart is magical. It opens with alto 1 on the written melody, then the sax section, followed by the brass taking the bridge section. Features include a very nice written tenor solo, lead trumpet range to written B-flat above the staff, and the usual optional parts. Perfect for any performance. (6:05) Emergency Stopping Only • Grade 3 By Craig Skeffington. A fiery Latin Afro-Cuban song with a unison sax melody sets up the high-energy level for this chart. Solos are for trumpet 2, trombone1 (both written), and drums. Lead trumpet range is to written B-flat above the staff with an optional D. The bari sax and bass‘ bone players both get a lot of action in the interlude. This one does not stop! (3:51) Willow Weep for Me • Grade 3 Words & music by Ann Ronnell, arr. Kris Berg. A superb alto sax feature, this is a classic 12/8 bluesy treatment of the great standard. Everything is written out for the alto player, with optional chord changes. Lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff. Give a listen to this soulful chart and decide for yourself. (4:47) Rule the Roost • Grade 3 By Kris Berg. The chicken saga continues! Kris Berg brings you this funky Tower of Power groove. Solos are written out for tenor and trombone, lead trumpet range is to written A, and the bass part is critical and somewhat challenging - that’s the story. It’s a clucking good time. (5:16) Sky Dive • Grade 3 By Freddie Hubbard, arr. Erik Morales. This tune is from the golden years of Freddie’s music, with a Latin groove and a minor flavor. Written-out solos are provided for alto and trumpet, lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff, plus the usual optional parts are included. (5:45) In Your Own Sweet Way • Grade 3 By Dave Brubeck, arr. Dave Rivello. Show off your rhythm section on this great tune arranged with an easy swing feel. Solos are for bass and piano (written out) and drums. There is a wonderful shout chorus that trades with the drums, plenty of beautiful harmony throughout, and lead trumpet range is to written A above the staff. Excellent writing. (4:23) Alice in Wonderland • Grade 3 By Bob Hilliard & Sammy Fain,arr. Jack Cooper. A jazz waltz, this standard is a familiar song from the popular Disney movie. An upbeat swingin’ waltz that will be an ideal contrast to any concert. Includes solo space for alto and trumpet, a big shout chorus, a lead trumpet range to written A above the staff, and all the optional parts. Wonderfully fun. (4:29)

Just in Time • Grade 3+ By Betty Comden, Adoph Green, & Jule Styne,arr. Dave Wolpe. A swingin’ vocal chart on a great standard at a moderate tempo by one of the best arrangers. There is a written-out alto sax solo in the instrumental interlude section. This chart is arranged in two different keys for flexibility. Vocal solo ranges: female (low) in the key of F, from G-sharp below middle C to 2nd space A; male (high) in the key of B-flat, from C-sharp above middle C to 4th line D, treble clef. (3:05) Save the Last Dance for Me • Grade 3 Music by Mort Shuman, words by Doc Pomus, arr. W. Scott Ragsdale. A very exciting chart to feature your vocalist on this popular standard with some great ensemble work for the band. It is arranged superbly as a bright rhumba in the key of B-flat, modulating to C with a vocal solo range of F below middle C to C third space (optional D). (3:33)…£35.71 At Last • Grade 3+ Music by Harry Warren, words byMack Gordon, arr. Dave Wolpe. The ever-popular bluesy vocal ballad was made famous by Etta James and more recently Beyoncé. The chart is arranged in two keys to suit the needs of all vocalists. In the instrumental section, there is a written tenor sax solo in the low (female) key and a written alto sax solo in the high (male) key. Vocal ranges are: female (low) in the key of G, from G below middle C to 3rd line B; male(high) in the key of B-flat, from B-flat below middle C to 4th line D, treble clef. (3:17) On a Clear Day • Grade 4 Words by Alan Jay Lerner, music byBurton Lane, arr. Darmon Meader. Bring your group together with a jazz vocal quartet, jazz choir, or an individual vocal soloist. Arranged for SATB by Darmon Meader, the musical director and chief arranger for New York Voices, it also includes a solo part. A swing chart with wonderful jazz harmonies throughout, there is a written-out vocal scat solo, plus a written-out tenor sax solo, with lead trumpet range to written B above the staff. If you have the vocalists, it doesn’t get much better than this. (5:07)

Recorda Me • Grade 4 By Joe Henderson, arr. Eric Richards. A show-stopping Latin tune! Latin jazz at its best with excitement from the first note, sax solis, a melody line by tenor and trumpet, solo space for tenor, trumpet, and trombone, lead trumpet range to written high D, and a few drum solos. Great tune composed by a tenor sax legend. (6:06) Yardbird Suite • Grade 4 By Charlie Parker, arr. Dave Wolpe. If you want your band to swing, then you gotta check out this fine chart on a Charlie Parker standard. It has a solo (melody is written out) for tenor sax and alto sax. Lead trumpet range is to written D above the staff. (2:28) Red Clay • Grade 4 By Freddie Hubbard, arr. Mike Crotty. The groove is Latin, but this is way hipper than your standard cha-cha. Solo space is provided for a variety of players: alto, tenor, trumpet, and trombones 1 and 2, with backgrounds for all. Lead trumpet range is to written high C. The chart is not that difficult technically, and has very interesting and rewarding texture and colors. A class act! (4:35) Raincheck • Grade 4 By Billy Strayhorn, arr. Les Hooper. Check out this a clever Strayhorn tune infused with wit along with Les Hooper’s superb arranging skills to create a tight-knit arrangement with a written 2nd trumpet solo.The lead trumpet part range is to written C above the staff and there is a wonderful ensemble section after the solo with just bass and hi-hat that is very hip. (3:48) Strong Like Bull! • Grade 4 By Denis DiBlasio. This Spanish-flavored tune has a march-like groove that creates a very powerful, exciting, and contemporary chart. There is written solo space for 2nd alto, but any soloist can play on the F Phrygian scale. Lead trumpet range is to written C above the staff. This chart will produce massive energy, power, and excitement! (3:57) Chelsea Bridge • Grade 4 By Billy Strayhorn, arr. Greg Yasinitsky. Ah, this beautiful ballad by Billy Strayhorn is full of lush textures, a few sax solis, a few modulations, a 2nd trumpet written solo melody, and lead trumpet range to written A above the staff. Every performance needs a ballad, and this one is truly superb. (4:07) Anthropology • Grade 4 By Charlie Parker, arr. Victor Goines. Big band bebop! This is smokin’ hot and packed with bop lines, section solis, a big shout chorus, solos for piano and tenor sax, and a lead trumpet range to written B-flat above the staff. Anthropology is the study of humanity and you should study this chart! (4:24)

Gaining on You • Grade 6 By Gordon Goodwin. Commissioned by the Crescent Super Band from Utah, this fast swing original is a hot chart. Solo space is provided for alto, tenor, bari, trumpet, and trombone, with lead trumpet range up to written high F-sharp and a few sax solis. Then you cook it around mm=260 to get a superb vehicle for your advanced jazz group. The percussion part calls for xylophone, vibes, and congas. Not quite as challenging as some Goodwin charts, and will definitely keep the band focused. As recorded by the Big Phat Band. (4:58) Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! • Grade 5 Words by Sammy Cahn, music by Jule Styne,arr. Gordon Goodwin. A medium swing chart in the style of Basie and Hefti, you’ll love this Goodwin adaptation of the wonderful holiday classic. It’s not a drum showcase, but the drummer has plenty of solo space beginning on brushes, then to sticks as the intensity rises. There is an optional flute part on 2nd alto and a percussion part for vibes. Optional solo space for alto, tenor, trumpet, and trombone, a lead trumpet range to written high E, plus a nice sax soli round out this excellent chart. You’ll want to play it twelve months a year! (4:29) That’s How We Roll • Grade 6 By Gordon Goodwin. A Goodwin original, this is a bouncy shuffle that has melodies with big hooks to grab your attention. Shuffles always work great and this one is no exception. “Roll” hassolo space for alto, tenor, bari, trumpet, and trombone, and a lead trumpet range to written high F with a G at the end. The percussion part calls for bongos and conga. As recorded by the Big Phat Band, it’s a winner at any concert or festival. (5:49) Rhapsody in Blue • Grade 6 By George Gershwin, arr. Gordon Goodwin. This is a tour-de-force arrangement of Gershwin’s masterpiece. If you can cut it, then play it because it will truly warrant a standing ovation. The sax doubles call for piccolo (alto 1), clarinet/flute (alto 2), and bass clarinet (bari). The second alto part has the well-known clarinet solo. This chart has it all - the thematic material, swing, key changes, solo space for alto, tenor, bari, trumpet, and trombone, with a lead trumpet range to written high F.
