BEGINNING JAZZ ENSEMBLE
BOP! - Vuono. Grade 1.5 £32.14
What a great chart for young jazz ensembles. Taking some of the basic element of bop, Vuono has created an up-tempo swing charts that is very accessible yet sounds complex. The main catch is an off-the-beat rhythmic figure, almost hinting at the word “bop”. Your audience is sure to love it and your students won’t be able to get enough of it.
FINDING YOU HERE - Morales. Grade 1.5 £32.14
This easy swing ballad pays homage to the great Neil Hefti and his classic Li’l Darlin’, which was written for the Count Basie Orchestra and is now standard repertoire in the big band genre. There is plenty of ensemble work, along with a great tenor sax solo (also with chord symbols). For greater performance flexibility, an optional solo sheet is included for other instruments as well. A great vehicle for teaching the most basic elements of jazz in a musical setting.

Get your hip-hop on with this new chart featuring an optional rap section (for soloist or group). Limited technical demands make this a very accessible piece for younger bands. The hip-hop groove alternates with swing passages, and there are many articulations provided to help achieve the correct style. As the title suggests, this one is hot. Based on an up-tempo, this solid chart has a catchy riff and involves the full ensemble. With very limited ranges and approachable, swinging rhythmic figures, this chart is within the reach of even very young ensembles. Written solos with changes are provided for all instruments, so feel free to open up. A great way to introduce your students to the blues and to feature your talented soloists.

This piece was inspired by a photograph of jazz clubs on New York’s 52nd Street in the late 40’s. It has the sound and feel of some of the great standards of that era, and incorporates elements of the classic big band style with bebop. Tenor sax has a written solo and changes. Check out this tasty setting of an old standard. It features an alto solo on the intro, then settles into a nice bossa groove. The solo section is double time for an added kick, with the bones playing the familiar melody in the background. Great writing!

Featuring a Basie-style piano part that's written out on the opening chorus, this blues settles into a very nice groove with the saxes featured much of the time. None of the parts are overly demanding and the ranges are very comfortable. An excellent blues recipe!
C JANE DANCE - Norred. Grade 2 £32.14
This easy rock-style chart features lead alto on written solo with changes provided. Trumpets are written in the staff, and the lead has only an occasional G. Larry provides some helpful insights into the composition of the piece and gives suggestions for listening and improving intonation.
CANT GO WRONG - Mattis. Grade 3 £28.57
This original shuffle is solidly scored with a Benny Golson/Quincy Jones flavor. The saxes are featured on the head with the solo in the first tenor part. The bridge features a two sax/two trumpet ensemble with a tasty pyramid background that is fun to play. Ken has gone to great lengths to write extensive rhythm section parts, assuring that even the most inexperienced players can make this one sound smooth.

Scored in the key of F, this chart begins with a slow chorale written for the full horn section. A drum fill sets the tempo for the bright gospel rock section with trumpet tutti lead. An E above tuning C is all you need for your lead trumpet. No solos... just excellent ensemble writing.

Reminiscent of the great Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Band, this tune settles into a nice groove after a tongue-in-cheek intro that's sure to bring back visions of the Groove Merchant. Rachel has scored this fine original to feature the saxes on the head, and later the tenor in the solo spotlight, complete with changes and a suggested written-out part for the developing jazz musician. An easy funk-style original for jazzers at any playing level. Mike has scored it so the 4th bone and 4th trumpet parts are strictly optional. Features a short alto solo (both changes and a suggested part are provided for the developing musician). Very easy!
CRESCENT CITY RAMBLE - Morales. Grade 3 £35.71
This extremely interesting original is based on a modified New Orleans-style street beat. A "gritty" bass part really helps add to the style, and there are plenty of opportunities for your pianist to add fills throughout. A tenor solo leads into some creative ensemble writing and a driving shout chorus. Very unique and destined to be one of the bestsellers this year!
CUABA - William. Grade 3 £21.42
Frank T. Williams has had a great jazz program in Florida for years, and FJH is proud to put one of his hot, up-tempo originals in print for every band to enjoy. This cooking samba chart features lots of solid ensemble writing from the first downbeat. The one tenor solo is written out if you need it. This one smokes all the way!
THE DAILY BLUES - Kidd. Grade 3 £28.57
Here's an F minor blues that bounces back and forth between a two-beat and four-beat feel. Featuring a quartet of muted trumpets and saxes with optional flute, this minor blues really cooks in the middle. There's an extended sax soli before the final shout chorus. You'll want to put this one on your festival list.

Nat King Cole's 50s classic is beautifully scored here by 'Tooth and features solo bone and tenor against a rich harmonic background. Very reasonable ranges with no changes needed. Highly recommended!
VIRTUAL REALITY BLUES - Qualkinbush. Grade 3 £28.57
Here's a driving up-tempo blues that moves tastefully between the keys of F and Bb. The scoring is solid and the ranges are limited, allowing room for a developing group to work on achieving a good swing style. The trumpet range stays in the staff, with some optional notes for the lead player if you want to put a little edge on top (but still only a high C needed).
WHEN JOHNNY COMES SWINGIN HOME - Kidd. Grade 3 £35.71
A brief drum solo kicks off this patriotic arrangement. Melody is introduced in the bari sax, trumpet, and optional vibraphone. Written solos and chord changes are provided for the trumpet and bari sax. A sax soli leads into a final shout chorus which demonstrates the type of writing you've come to expect from Bryan Kidd.

Consider this great Frank Mantooth original for your contest or festival repertoire. The opening trumpet/bone chorale is an excellent intro before the up-tempo samba beat takes over. Frank features a small combo of tenor, trumpet, and bone on the head, which should give you plenty of options for your solo section. Powerful block scoring sets up your drummer for some hot fills throughout. This pro-sounding chart has very reasonable range demands. A festival winner!

Here's the hottest chart of the year for your swinging jazzers to play. It attacks all the way and never lets your audience relax. Based on the familiar changes of Avalon, this chart is flat out "pedal to the metal." It features a tenor chase with a trumpet option and is loaded with some great ensemble writing behind the soloists. Definitely HOT!

Grammy nominee Frank Mantooth offers this innovative arrangement of Perdido. The A section is presented as a half-time funk and the bridge as a double-time swing. A fresh sound of a classic standard!

This fast swing chart from Rob Vuono features melodic and harmonic writing at its best. Even at this grade level, Rob has provided suggested voicings for the rhythm section. Tenor sax has an optional written solo before a sax soli. An a cappella section is ideal to work on the timing of the horns without rhythm before a vamp kicks in, building to the end. Great writing!

Check out this hot swinger from John Dilkey. It moves tastefully, several times, between a heavy shuffle beat and a straight-ahead swing tempo. A pulsating triplet feel drives this one all the way. John has thrown in a couple of key changes near the end to push the shout chorus even higher. It's definitely a sure-fire winner!

Strut your stuff with this New Orleans flavored swinger. This tune is great to show off your drummer, lead tenor, and piano player. However, the solo section can be opened up to showcase more of your talented performers. Includes a great sax soli as well as a very exciting shout chorus

This swinging four-beat version of the old Von Tilzer baseball classic really cooks on all cylinders. Features lots of great ensemble writing, including a little 3/4 tongue-in-cheek bridge right before the final chorus. An excellent chart to entertain and bring back the nostalgic swing era.
TECHENKO - OKaine. Grade 5 £28.57
Rachel Steckler O'Kaine has written out the optional conga and sekere parts to aid your percussionist in creating Afro-Cuban rhythms as easily as possible. Check out the performance notes for specific notation used in the conga part. This is an extremely well-written chart worthy of your highest festival or contest considerations. Great material for better bands.

Many people are familiar with this tune, made famous by George Benson. Frank Mantooth has arranged this compelling version with several harmonic deviations from the original. An excellent ballad to change the pace of your concert and feature your tenor sax.

This pro-style swinger is really hot, and provides some great sectional writing for the bones and saxes. The shout chorus really cooks after an alto solo and sax soli. There's a conga part written out to provide some added punch to the mix as well. Excellent for festival or contest
