The Locarno Big Band is a 18 piece dance orchestra. It is composed of 5 saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, piano, guitar, bass, drums and one lovely vocalist.
Based in Colchester, Essex, the band is available for functions in and around East Anglia.
The leader is Ian Steele, who is also the founder/owner of the American Stage Band Music Service.
The repertoire is mainly based on the big band style of the 1940’s and 1950’s including jive, ballroom, latin, rock & roll and old time.
The band is surprisingly affordable, especially in the North Essex area. The dedication and pride we have in the band is more important than high financial rewards. Our main concern is to provide a first rate performance at an affordable fee.
The band is ideally suited for Grand Balls, Society Events, Large Weddings, Charity Functions, 1940/1950 Dances.
The minimum stage area required is 18ft wide by 14ft deep. We prefer larger but we can make 18 x 14 work.
A big band is not generally loud. Many smaller groups and DJs are actually louder. We use a sound system mainly for the vocalist and announcing.
Also, because of our special musical arrangements the band is capable of producing quiet, lush music as well as thundering, exciting music. We are only loud when we are supposed to be.
The band portrays a neat, professional appearance from attractive music stands with logo in uniform dress.
We play just about any type of swing music, jazz, romantic ballad and some latin.
Unlike most big bands, this is not a pick up band, but a polished, experienced group of handpicked musicians who have played together for some time. The musicians, the arrangements are first rate. It’s Big Band music at it’s best! For a quotation, please contact:
