The American Stage Band Music Service is delighted to represent Smart Chart Music, a brand new company which is owned by jazz arranger, Mike Carubia.
The goal of Smart Chart Music is to provide the educational and professional markets with Jazz Ensemble music that embodies the true essence of the jazz idiom; swing, blues, melodic clarity, logical chord changes and improvisation. The styles of Thad Jones, Count Basie & Duke Ellington will be the  focal point for the jazz idiom. The contemporary styles will include funk and latin styles of some of the leading composers of these two genre.  Solos will be completely written out in all of the publications and should be used for study and to enhance the performance of a particular composition. The composers / arrangers are all highly skilled professionals who also have extensive experience working with high school and college level students as well as professional credits including; film, recording and name bands.

This driving  Rock/ Funk/ Ballad/ Blues is Thad's tour de force which captures the essence of life in a part of New York City in the 1970's.  Carefully re-scored it has been made playable by high school and college bands at a Grade 3 1/2 - 4 level. Written as a "mini suite" this chart will be well worth the effort mastering the different styles incorporated in this "classic" Thad Jones masterpiece. The second and more difficult of the two "Sassy's". This one mirrors Thad's original in form and style. Slightly richer voicings than the version in F but not an overly high lead trumpet part. Written Bb with optional high C. You will think you are playing Thad's original in Db when you play this one without the demanding ranges and difficult sax soli.

YOU CAN COUNT ON IT by Paul Lester.
A nice medium tempo blues in Bb with the shout chorus in Eb . This composition captures some of the "cool school" style that was popular on the West & East coasts in the 50's.  Written solos, piano voicings playable by full jazz ens. or smaller 4 saxes, 3 trps., 2 trbs., 3 rhy.
